What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a normal human emotion – a sign you’re experiencing stress and your body is letting you know. Anxiety helps you recognize threats and risky situations so you can react appropriately.

But if this is normal, why is it such a common mental health concern?

Sometimes, you experience anxiety causing you to react in ways you don’t want. Instead of your anxiety helping you avoid danger, it signals you to avoid things that aren’t dangerous. It can even signal you to avoid things desirable to you, like relationships or social gatherings.
